State ag research board has 2 new members

Thursday, July 7, 2005 8:25 AM CDT

The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education has approved two new members to the board that oversees agricultural research and the Extension Service at North Dakota State University.

The board named Paul Langseth and Larry Lee to the North Dakota State Board of Agricultural Research and Education (SBARE). The two were appointed to full four-year terms ending in 2009.

Langseth operates a cattle, small-grains, corn and soybean farm and ranch near Barney. He has served on numerous local and state boards, including the Corn Granting Committee in conjunction with SBARE, the Farm Bureau, Golden Growers Cooperative, ProGold LLC and the Board of Higher Education's Agricultural Consultation Board.

Langseth also represented North Dakota on the Council for Agriculture, Research, Extension and Training Board under the auspices of the National Association of Universities and Land-Grant Colleges.

Lee is a farmer and rancher from Velva. His production experience includes spring wheat, durum, barley, sunflowers, soybeans, canola, specialty crops and beef cattle. He has served on the U.S. Wheat Industry Biotechnology Committee, Monsanto's Wheat Industry Advisory Committee, the National Scab Initiative Steering Committee, North Dakota Wheat Commission and SBARE's Wheat Granting Committee.

Lee also is very active in agricultural research and association efforts at the local level, such as the McHenry County Crop Improvement Board, McHenry County Research and Extension Advisory Board, North Central Research and Extension Board of Visitors and Velva Farmers Union Elevator board of directors.

The North Dakota Legislature established the State Board of Agricultural Research and Education in 1997 with responsibilities to oversee agricultural research and Extension at NDSU.
